Blue Jays fan receives a birthday surprise with signed Justin Smoak home run ball

TORONTO – Slugger Justin Smoak has helped the Toronto Blue Jays with ten home runs this season, but for Mykala McCabe, a homer hit back in June is particularly special.

McCabe, who lives near Sarnia, Ont., caught a home run Smoak hit against the Detroit Tigers and sent the ball to the Jays’ head office, asking if the first baseman could sign it for her uncle, Paul.

In a video posted to Facebook last Saturday, McCabe can be seen describing how she received the autographed baseball that was not only signed, but came with a special message for the Jays fan.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“Look what else he wrote on it,” McCabe said. “It says ‘To Paul, Happy Birthday signed Justin Smoak.’”
