Calèche horses in good health, says report

MONTREAL – The city’s calèche horses have been given a clean bill of health, according to municipal officials.

Mayor Denis Coderre called for a health report after a photo of a fallen horse on Notre-Dame Street Ouest made the rounds on social media, angering animal rights groups.

The report reviewed the health of 56 horses that pull 24 calèches in Montreal and concluded that the July 14 incident was an isolated one.

In some cases, it was suggested that a horse lose or gain weight or be allowed to rest more, but overall it seems the horses are in good health.
