EDMONTON — Organized crime investigators say two children were living in a St. Albert home where two women were allegedly running a drug trafficking operation.

The women were arrested on Wednesday, when members of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams searched a home in St. Albert’s Lacombe Park neighbourhood. Officers say the children were not home at the time of the search.

A wide variety of illegal and prescription drugs were found inside the house, along with evidence to suggest drug trafficking, according to RCMP.

Officers say methamphetamine was the most prominent drug being sold. Other drugs were seized, including cocaine, ketamine, GHB, diazepam, morphine and psilocybin.

Police say two young children lived in the home and believe drug transactions happened regularly. According to the drug-endangered children’s legislation, children who are exposed to an adult’s involvement in serious drug activity are victims of abuse and need protection.

  • Possession of proceeds of crime
  • Causing a child to be drug-endangered

A 38-year-old woman, who is the parent of the two children, is charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Causing a child to be drug-endangered

ALERT is still in the process of determining the value of the drugs.
