Summary: This new riding along the Alberta-BC border is a slightly smaller version of the former riding of Macleod, which elected Conservative MP John Barlow in a by-election in 2014. He is re-offering here.

Boundaries: This riding begins at Calgary’s southwest city limits, and covers most of southwestern Alberta, including the communities of Pincher Creek, Claresholm, High River, and Okotoks.

Last Election: In the 2014 by-election in Macleod, Conservative John Barlow earned 69.16 per cent of the vote, followed by Liberal Dustin Fuller with 16.95 per cent. Within the boundaries of this new riding, 77.8 percent of people voted Conservative in 2011, followed by 10.1 per cent voting Liberal.

History: This area has been solidly conservative for decades. Conservative Ted Menzies was the Macleod MP from 2004 until his resignation in 2013.

Demographics: The riding’s median age is 41.5, highest in Alberta.
