EXCLUSIVE: Soccer brawl shocks the West Island

WATCH ABOVE: West Island parents and recreational league soccer officials are aghast at an incident Thursday night that may end up involving a police investigation. Billy Shields reports.

DOLLARD-DES-ORMEAUX -A strange post-game brawl has left parents and soccer officials in the West Island aghast.

The game was Thursday night, when the men’s senior teams of FC Trois Lacs (FCTL) played Dollard-des-Ormeaux (DDO), winning 2-1.

But after the game, FCTL coach Luis Arias said he was jumped by the opposing team and kicked repeatedly resulting in a concussion and injured ribs.

DDO coach Giovanni Lanni told Global News on the phone that the incident was a “sports scuffle” and countered Arias was being verbally abusive to DDO’s fans.

Taken on its own, the box score of the game paints an ugly picture: two DDO players sent off and Arias himself ejected, all with red cards.

Officials from the regional association say they’re looking into the matter and that discipline could be forthcoming. They also noted that a separate police investigation could be possible.
Arias plans to file a police report on Monday.
