Family of murdered Brampton man seeking information on one-year anniversary of death

WATCH ABOVE: Tho Huynh was found dead near a strip mall last year. There have been no arrests and Peel Regional Police are appealing to the public for information on the one year anniversary of his death. Mark Carcasole reports.

TORONTO – The family of a 53-year-old Brampton man found murdered on a street corner last year is appealing for information one year after his death.

“He was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend to many, and we are reaching out to the public in hopes that there may be some information to assist police in making an arrest,” the family said in a statement.

Peel Regional Police say Tho Huynh ventured outdoors for a walk on Aug. 1, 2014 around 1 a.m. when he was confronted and attacked by an unknown number of suspects at the corner of Hurontario St. and Conservation Dr.

“I can say that several people who we would identify as persons of interest have been identified,” said Const. Lilly Fitzpatrick.

“When somebody loses their life through a violent act having answers to the hundreds of questions that go through your mind is critical in helping the family, in helping the friends and in helping the colleagues of that person move forward with their life.”

Family friend Cherita Smithen said the family is still deeply affected by Huynh’s death.

“Everyone is still upset over the whole ordeal,” she said.

“We’re all still just trying to figure out how it happened and why it happened.”

The victim’s family said he was going for a routine jog around the neighbourhood to pick up his mail when he failed to return home.

“There’s a very good chance that there’s somebody out there watching this or seeing this event today that knows some piece of information that can solve it very easily,” said Greg Winger, Chair of Peel Crimestoppers.

“They might not have all of the pieces of the puzzle but they might have that one piece of the puzzle that can help the police solve the crime.”

Police have not released any information on possible suspects in the case.

“We all get on with our lives of course. You’re forced to but there’s no rest,” said Smithen.

“His family and his friends and the people he worked with — we all need closure.”

Investigators are asking anyone who may have been in the area of Hurontario Street and Conservation Drive, Brampton, on Aug. 1, 2014, or anyone with any information relating to this investigation, to contact the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau at (905) 453-2121, ext. 3205.
