Jacques-Cartier Bridge lights up for Montreal’s anniversary

MONTREAL – The Jacques-Cartier Bridge will light up to celebrate the city’s 375th anniversary in 2017.

Local and federal politicians announced an innovative new lighting concept for the bridge, created by Montreal-based company Moment Factory.

The entire bridge will light up and change colours depending on the seasons and the beat of the city, similarly to several areas of the Old Port.

The project will cost $39.5 million, with the federal government giving $30 million and the rest coming from the city.

It’s a steep price tag, but those planning the celebrations insist it will be worth it.

“With this kind of project, if it was done anywhere in the world we would say how come Moment Factory is doing that in San Francisco?” said Gilbert Rozon, commissioner of the 375th anniversary celebrations.

“We’re doing it in Montreal, it’s going to be unique and we’re going to be the most advanced lighting design of a bridge in the world and I think it’s going to be amazing.”
