On the first year anniversary of the homicide of a 15-year-old boy, the Vancouver Police Board announced it is offering a $10,000 reward to anyone with information.
On July 26, 2015 Jason Nguyen walked into his sister’s bedroom in his family’s East Vancouver home on East 25 Avenue covered in blood and collapsed on the floor. Police and paramedics were called to the scene. He was rushed to BC Children’s Hospital with serious injuries but died on the operating table.
Nguyen was a good brother and son and not involved with crime. The motive for the attack is still not clear and police believe he may have been targeted because of someone he may have known.
Nguyen’s sister Tiffany said “I’ve heard a lot of rumours of people saying that we’re a gang family, we’re not. We’re just a normal family and it’s very surprising to us that this happened to him.”
“Sometimes I do ask people — do they know what happened or anything but obviously this is a big thing and they don’t want to share information. It could end up getting them hurt and I don’t want that. So it’s best to just not ask anything and keep it private.”
Vancouver police Cst. Brian Montague said in 2015, details are limited because of the ongoing investigation.
Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and are looking at several possibilities that could have led to the teen’s death.
