Police lay charges after midway stabbing at Calgary Stampede

Calgary – Police have laid charges in connection to a stabbing at the Stampede grounds earlier this week.

Officers were called to the grounds around midnight on Thursday after a fight broke out on the midway.

When officers arrived they found two people suffering from stab wounds. One of the victims was taken to Foothills hospital in critical condition, while the second was treated at the Rockyview Hospital and released.

A foot pursuit led police to a third man who had also been stabbed. Police believe he was responsible for the stabbings.

20 year-old Rinato Toy is charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of obstruction of justice and two counts of breaching a court order.

Toy is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday July 16.

Police are asking anyone that may have witnessed the event and has not already spoken to investigators to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
