TORONTO — Actor Johnny Depp showed he has a heart of gold by stopping by a children’s hospital in Australia Tuesday night while dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow.

The 52-year-old actor, who is in the country filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, arrived at Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital by helicopter in full costume and makeup.

Depp and co-star Stephen Graham (Scrum) visited young patients in the oncology and neurology units for two hours.

“He was going from room to room seeing all the kids who couldn’t get out of bed,” Rachel Bennett, whose son Max has a rare neurological disorder, told ABC.

“We waited out of the front of one of the rooms, and he came up to us and had a really good chat [with] Max.”

Depp posed for photos and handed out prop gold coins.

On Facebook, Jade Chapman shared an autograph Depp signed for her. “You are a true beauty — and absolute pleasure meeting you — my love and respect always,” he wrote.

The star had reportedly asked that his visit to the hospital not be publicized — but it didn’t take long for social media to start buzzing.
