Donald Trump retweets racially charged attack on Jeb Bush, wife

Donald Trump retweeted a racially charged attack on rival Jeb Bush over the weekend, offending some Twitter users.

The original tweet, sent by @RobHeilbron said Jeb Bush “has to like the Mexican illegals because of his wife,” Columba Bush, who was born in Mexico.

Trump retweeted the tweet to his 3.11 million followers on Saturday. He quickly deleted the tweet, though not before watchful Twitter users were able to grab screenshots.

Trump has taken a hard line on illegal immigration since announcing his candidacy for the Republican nomination, saying in his announcement address that he’d build a wall along the Mexican border and give the bill to the Mexican government.

He also described most Mexican immigrants as “criminals.”

“They’re sending people who have lots of problems and they’re bringing their problems with us,” he said during his presidential announcement.

“They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists, and some, I assume, are good people.”

Bush hasn’t responded to Trump’s tweet but has already publicly said he found the hotel magnate’s comments on illegal immigration “offensive.”

“No one suggests that we shouldn’t control our borders – everybody has a belief that we should control our borders,” Bush said, according to the Associated Press. “But to make these extraordinarily ugly kind of comments is not reflective of the Republican Party. Trump is wrong on this.”

Bush isn’t alone in casting Trump has an outcast either. Mitt Romney, and current candidate Marco Rubio also distanced themselves from Trump, with Rubio saying his comments were “not just offensive and inaccurate, but also divisive,” according to Breitbart.com.

It’s not the first time Trump has got himself in trouble for retweeting a questionable comment. In April, he retweeted one of his followers who asked: “If Hillary Clinton can’t satisfy her husband, what makes her think she can satisfy America?” He deleted that tweet as well.
