Carli Lloyd led the U.S’s stunning four-goal attack in the opening 16 minutes with a hat-trick strike from near the halfway line as Team USA demolished Japan 5-2 in the Women’s World Cup final on Sunday.

Lauren Holiday and Tobin Heath also scored in the victory as the Americans claimed their third title after previously winning in 1991 and 1999.

Julie Johnston had an own goal in the second half, while Yuki Ogimi had the other goal for Japan, who were the defending World Cup champions having beaten the U.S. four years ago.

In front of a crowd of 53,341 at B.C. Place Stadium that included U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
