WHO: Peter Young – @nsdrifter

WHY: Peter Young’s Instagram feed captures the rugged outdoor beauty of the East Coast and shows how much fun you can have wandering through the woods. Young is an avid Geocacher, venturing through the Maritimes to find geochaches (hide and seek containers). Geocaching has become quite popular over the last few years in major cities such as Toronto, Edmonton, and Vancouver, and through Instagram feeds like Young’s it is becoming more and more popular on the East Coast.

WHO: Scott Pyke – @scottpyke

WHY: Many photos of the East Coast show off the quaint and colourful small towns, the bright white lighthouses, and the sunny hills. But there’s a hustling and bustling city scene on the coast, focused around Halifax and Fredericton. Scott Pyke’s Instagram feed shows off how cool and hip Maritimers can be, alternating between photos of his extensive record collection and fun places to visit in Nova Scotia, all shot through Instagram’s trademark sepia-toned filter.

WHO: Bisera @bisera_____._._._

WHY: Bisera’s Instagram feed is overflowing with pristine pictures of Nova Scotia’s lakes, rivers, and seaside cottages. Whether in the forest or the city streets, it captures both the sun dappled and cloud smothered sides of the East Coast. There are almost no photos of people in Bisera’s collection, emphasizing that even though the East Coast is becoming more populated every day the natural grace of the land will always shine through.

WHO: Steve Coverdale – @Stevecover48

WHY: Steve Coverdale’s Instagram feed also features a lack of humans, but their footprint is much more noticeable in his pictures. He’s managed to capture the natural beauty of the Maritimes while also emphasizing how critical new infrastructure is to the Atlantic economy. Photos of bridges, factories, and construction truly capture the shifting values of Canada’s East Coast.

WHO: Newfoundland.fox – @newfoundland.fox

WHY: Nova Scotia is not the only picturesque place on Canada’s Atlantic Coast. The island of Newfoundland is equally beautiful, and you only have to take a look through this Instagram feed to see it for yourself. Newfoundland is rockier than Nova Scotia or New Brunswick but there’s a grace to how the cliff faces crash down into the water that this Instagram feed captures.
