Metro Vancouver celebrates Canada Day 2015

WATCH:  Thousands of people across BC and Canada celebrated this country’s 148th birthday. John Hua reports.

Thousands gathered at Canada Day celebrations at Canada Place and Granville Island Wednesday.

About 80,000 people are expected to visit Granville Island to take in live music, kids’ activities and a parade.

More than 250,000 took part in daytime festivities at Canada Place, which included a citizenship ceremony for 60 new Canadians.

For the Ramjug family, originally from Mauritius, it was something that they had been waiting for for five years.

“We are very lucky we are in Canada now,” said Jairag Ramjug after the ceremony. “It’s a great country.”
