It’s official, the Vancouver Canucks have traded Kevin Beiksa to the Anaheim Ducks.

Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the Canucks have acquired a 2016 second round draft pick from Anaheim in exchange for Bieksa.

“We would like to thank Kevin and his wife Katie for their incredible commitment to this team and community,” said Benning in a statement. “It’s always a difficult decision to trade a player who’s been such a big part of an organization for so long and we wanted to make sure we did what was best for both Kevin and the Canucks. Kevin was a leader for us and will always be connected with our fans and the Vancouver Canucks because of all he did for this province and team. We wish him and his family the very best.”

Bieksa has one year left on his contract at a salary-cap hit of US $4.6 million.

Not everyone is happy about the trade however.

Although Ryan Kesler seems to be welcoming:

This trade comes on the heels of Eddie Lack’s trade to the Carolina Hurricanes.
