Police arrest suspect in connection with fatal stabbing in Brampton

TORONTO – Peel Regional Police have arrested a 29-year-old Brampton man in connection with a fatal stabbing.

Police responded to a call for help at a low-rise apartment building on Leslie St. at 12:22 p.m. Tuesday.

Const. Lilly Fitzpatrick said officers discovered a 61-year-old man with life-threatening injuries and he was rushed to hospital.

Peel paramedics said he had suffered serious head injuries in the stabbing.

The unidentified man later died from his injuries in hospital and homicide investigators took over the investigation.

Police arrested Jeremy Wood, 29, for murder after an extensive search of the area with a police canine unit.

Wood is being held pending a bail hearing and will appear in court in Brampton on Wednesday.

Police said in a release that investigators from both the homicide and missing persons bureaus are continuing the investigation “into the series of events leading up to this incident.”
