‘The scariest thing on earth’: Curious bear has its way with family car at Yellowstone Park

TORONTO – A family vacationing in Yellowstone National Park got more wildlife than it bargained for when a curious – and hungry – brown bear took an interest in their car.

The bear clambered up the hood, poked around the windows, and generally cased the joint while the family, curious and terrified, looks on from inside the car.

The footage originally uploaded to YouTube on June 23rd was shot by Valerie Peters, on vacation with her husband David, daughter Elise, and niece Sage in Yellowstone National Park in Montana.

According to the family, the footage was shot just outside the park on Beartooth Highway, where the family had stopped to do some nature watching – that is, before nature decided to watch them back.

David Peters says he was actually standing outside the car snapping pictures when the curious brown bear made his way over, forcing him to dive into the back seat for safety.

“The bear came over and jumped [on] the car and just had its way with the car for about five minutes,” David Peters told ABC News. “It was exciting. Except I got my car kind of trashed.”

The camera records the family’s speculation as to what makes it so interesting to the bear.

At one point, an open bag of jerky is believed to be the culprit – which, if true, would make this pretty much the most relatable and awesome bear ever.

The family also speculates as to how easily the bear could gain access to the car.

But the worrying is for naught: The bear is scared off once David starts the car’s engine.
