City of Vancouver urging residents to report neighbours for breaking watering rules

WATCH ABOVE: Watering restrictions with hefty fines are now in place in many Metro Vancouver communities. And you’re even encouraged to snitch on people breaking the rules. Julia Foy reports.

The City of Vancouver is encouraging residents to tattle on their neighbours if they see them watering their lawn when they’re not supposed to.

Restrictions are now in place and there’s a $250 fine if you’re caught watering outside the permitted hours.

People with even-numbered addresses can use their sprinklers on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m.

People with odd-numbered addresses can water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m.

“We do need to watch the situation and we do also need everyone to really follow the restrictions that are in place because that’s what helps us manage that limited supply,” said Marilyn Towill from the Metro Vancouver Water District.
