TORONTO — Celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton announced Tuesday morning he will be playing Danny Tanner in Full House: The Musical! in Toronto.

The musical, an unauthorized parody of the sitcom that ran for eight seasons beginning in 1987, will premiere at the Randolph Theatre on Bathurst Street on Aug. 18 before opening in New York City on Sept. 7.

The show will also star Seth Blum as Joey, John Duff as Uncle Jesse, Amanda Nicholas as DJ, Marguerite Halcovage as Stephanie and Marshall Louise as Michelle.

According to a description of the musical, it follows Tanner as he “loses his super power of solving any problem with his sensible Dad Speeches” and his “descent into madness as he slowly turns from wholesome Danny Tanner to foul-mouthed and dark Bob Saget.”

Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, has limited acting experience. He showed up in episodes of The Sopranos and Hot in Cleveland and had a small role in a 2011 film.

“I’m singing in it,” Hilton told radio host Howard Stern. “I’ve been working with this amazing vocal coach Liz Caplan for a few years.”

National Lampoon Presents Full House: The Musical! was written and directed by Bob and Tobly McSmith and choreographed by Jason Wise.

Full House starred Saget as well as Dave Coulier, John Stamos, Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Lori Loughlin.

A spinoff series, Fuller House, is scheduled to debut on Netflix. Bure has said the first episode will feature a reunion of most of the cast members.

Production of the Lifetime TV movie The Unauthorized Full House Story recently wrapped in Vancouver.
