WATCH: Pod of orcas spotted in Burrard Inlet

WATCH ABOVE: Coal Harbour Boat Rental captured this close-up encounter of a pod of orcas in the Burrard Inlet.

VANCOUVER – To the delight and surprise of many Vancouverites out for a stroll along the Seawall on Monday morning, a pod of orcas was spotted in Burrard Inlet.

The whales frolicked in the water for some time before eventually making their way under the Lions Gate Bridge and out into the open waters.

There were at least four in the pod.

This sighting happened on the same day the Vancouver Aquarium released its WhaleReport app. Everyone is encouraged to use the app to report cetaceans and sea turtle sightings to help scientists develop conservation measures to protect them.
