REGINA – The City of Regina is advising residents to stay out of the water at Lakewood’s retention pond because there is blue-green algae present.
Lack of rain and higher than average temperatures have created ideal conditions for the algae to form, and these blooms create toxins that are potentially harmful.
Pets should be kept away from the water as well.
If your pet does enter the water, wash their feet immediately to make sure they do not ingest anything harmful when they lick their fur.
City employees are monitoring the situation and will continue sampling measures to determine the water conditions. If you want more information contact the city at 306-777-7000.
