WATCH ABOVE: A Scarborough couple planned for their child to be born in the comfort and safety of their local hospital, but ended up having a wild night on the road. Mike Drolet has the story.
It was a happy surprise – with some tense moments – for a family in Scarborough.
Just after midnight Toronto Fire, Toronto EMS, and York EMS responded to the intersection of Oasis Blvd. & Morningside Ave. for a woman giving birth inside a RAV 4 SUV.
When crews arrived the baby was crowning and with the help of emergency services the mother gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

She was on her way to hospital being driven by her husband when they had to pull over and stop.
“We were on our way there and it just happened,” said proud dad Norman Wan on the roadside, just moments after his infant was delivered.
Both mother and son were taken to Markham Stouffville Hospital.
Mom, dad and baby are all doing fine.
