EDMONTON — Global Edmonton’s Woman of Vision program was awarded the top honour of the Western Association of Broadcasters Thursday.

Lesley MacDonald, the producer, host and creator of the 20-year TV series, accepted the Gold Medal Award at a ceremony in Banff.

The awards are presented annually to honour outstanding contributions to Canadian broadcasting in the area of community service.

Woman of Vision launched on ITV News (now Global Edmonton) in 1995. The series celebrates local women who demonstrate a strong vision, and whose leadership enriches our lives and make our community a better place in which to live. The stories serve to strengthen and empower visionary women, and provide powerful and diverse role models for young women.

The program marked its 20-year anniversary in March with a gala event Edmonton Event Centre attended by more than 1,100 people.
