Returning favourites, new shows pack specialty channel season

TORONTO — Shaw Media announced Monday it is bringing 80 highly anticipated new series to its specialty channels this TV season.

The parent company of Global News also revealed that hits like History’s Vikings, Food Network’s Chopped Canada and HGTV Canada’s House of Bryan will be back for new seasons.

“Shaw Media continues to dominate the Canadian specialty television landscape, bolstered by our commitment to high-quality, homegrown talent and content,” said Christine Shipton, SVP and Chief Creative Officer, Shaw Media, in a release.

“Our series are consistently smashing records and with our 2015/16 slate of exciting new and record-breaking returning hit series, we’re set to uphold our position as the number one provider of specialty entertainment in Canada.”

History will feature the Canadian premiere of Lost Treasure of the Knights Templar and new series like Klondike Trappers, Curse of the Frozen Gold, Battle Factory, Outlaw Chronicles: Hells Angels, Tree People, and the Montreal-shot Natural Born Outlaws.

Returning to the line-up are favourites like Yukon Gold, Counting Cars, Pawn Stars, American Pickers, and Mountain Men.

Showcase will add Mr. Robot starring Christian Slater and Rami Malek; the comedy series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, starring Rachel Bloom; and The Magicians starring Jason Ralph.

Outlander and the made-in-Canada series Lost Girl, Haven and Continuum will all be back.

New shows on HGTV Canada include Tiny House Big Living. Unusually Thicke: Under Construction brings Alan Thicke and his family back for a second season.

Also returning to HGTV Canada are Fixer Upper, Flip or Flop, Ellen’s Design Challenge, Leave it to Bryan, and Timber Kings.

Food Network Canada is cooking up new shows including Chef in Your Ear, The Incredible Food Race, and Camp Cutthroat.

The channel will feature Canada’s Great Canadian Cookbook and returning favourites like Chopped Teen Tournament, Holiday Baking Championship, and Halloween Wars.

Slice celebrates its 20th anniversary with the broadcast premiere of First Dates and new series including Million Dollar Listing: San Francisco, Work Out New York and NeNe and Kim.
