WATCH: Delta Airlines releases Internet meme-themed safety video

Frequent fliers know that one of the necessary hassles of flying is sitting through a sometimes yawn-inducing safety demonstration.

But the most recent safety video from Delta Airlines might have some laughing and some feeling rather confused.

Delta created what they dubbed “The Internetest safety video on the Internet,” cramming in over 20 Internet memes in their six minute safety video.

Online superstars like the Double Rainbow Guy, Roomba Cat and Dramatic Chipmunk appear as a flight attendant explains the safety measures step by step.

“We had a ton of fun with this one, and we think our customers will, too” said Mauricio Parise, Delta’s director of Worldwide Marketing Communication in a statement. “These memes and cameos tap into the zeitgeist as the latest way of capturing our customers’ attention for our important safety presentation.”

But some critics are saying the video – which has already garnered nearly 2 million views in just two days – is just trying too hard.

Newsweek calls the video “cringeworthy” and rightly points out how confusing the video could be for elderly passengers or those who aren’t familiar with Internet memes.

And Kotaku flat-out calls the video “garbage.”

“It’s a miles-long marathon cringe, an endless procession of dead horses brought out and beaten mercilessly,” writes Kotaku’s Nathan Grayson.

This isn’t the first time Delta has produced a quirky safety video. The airline released a holiday version last December.

The Internetest safety video will be rolled out on Delta flights starting May 25.
