REGINA – The NDP’s election victory in Alberta is expected to dominate much of the chatter when Saskatchewan New Democrats hold their annual convention this weekend.

Delegates will meet at Regina’s Evraz Place for what will be their last gathering before an expected election call in Saskatchewan next spring.

John Tzupa, a party spokesman, says the outcome of the Alberta election will re-energize the Saskatchewan wing of the party and provide momentum before the next election.

Tzupa also says the win by Rachel Notley’s New Democrats proved that campaigns matter and that anything can happen.

The May 5 vote in Alberta saw the NDP topple the Progressive Conservatives, who had held power for nearly 44 years.

Saskatchewan NDP Leader Cam Broten will address the delegates on Saturday, along with former New Democrat premiers Roy Romanow and Lorne Calvert.
