WINNIPEG — The southern Prairies stand out in Canada with Weather Warnings in place for the long weekend.
Environment Canada issue Weather Warnings when more than one type of extreme weather is anticipated.
In this case rainfall warnings, freezing rain warnings, wind warnings, and snowfall warnings could all be issued based on the forecasts through to Monday afternoon.
Generally, the warning area can expect winds of 60-80 km/h but some regions could face winds upwards of 70 and gusting to 90 km/h Sunday morning.
Starting Sunday night, high pressure will force cold air South turning the rain into freezing rain or ice pellets, then snow.
According to Environment Canada, areas likely to see the heaviest snowfall amounts are expected in an arching line from Melita – Brandon- Neepawa – Arborg – Berens River by early Monday and totals could be as much as 10-15 cm.
Snowfall is also expected into Northern Ontario where Winter Storm and Freezing Rain warnings are in place.
