It announced Thursday that it has now set a target to be achieved by 2030, of a 37 per cent reduction below 1990 levels.

Ontario says it’s the first province to set a 2030 target.

The province recently announced a cap and trade program to limit the main sources of greenhouse gas pollution.

Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard said in a speech to the Ontario legislature on Monday that the two provinces are leading the fight on climate change.
