Pilot seriously injured after plane crashes in parking lot of Vancouver Island animal hospital

Emergency crews have assembled in the parking lot of the Comox Valley Animal Hospital where a small plane crashed just after 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

The single-engined PZL-10 crashed into several parked cars. Fortunately no one was inside the vehicles at the time. The plane also clipped a building during its descent, damaging it slightly.

“We just heard sort of loud boom, a shake and a rattle,” said Teresa Coates, whose car was damaged in the crash. “It instantly crossed my mind that it might be an earthquake.”

The pilot was transported to hospital with very serious injuries. Christopher Cameron is alert and in stable condition in Victoria General Hospital. He remains in the intensive care unit after undergoing surgery.

Cameron — a well known lawyer in the Comox valley — is an experienced aviator with both private and commercial licenses.
