SASKATOON – Saskatoon Transit is launching a new bus route on weekends for the duration of the University Bridge rehabilitation project. The bridge closes to public traffic on Sunday.

The weekend shuttle service will run between the downtown terminal and Place Riel at the University of Saskatchewan, via a single open lane on University Bridge.

The #200 route will shuttle passengers every 15 minutes on weekends.

“It will also allow us to provide consistent service on those weekends when the University Bridge closes to all authorized vehicles including Transit,” said Trevor Bell, the city’s acting director of Saskatoon Transit.

The single lane of traffic on the University Bridge for authorized users is expected to close for six to eight weekends over the course of the project. During those weekends, transit will continue to offer the new route using the Broadway Bridge.

On Sunday, buses will be taking this alternate route as the University Bridge will be fully closed.

The city says the alternate route across the Broadway Bridge will add about 10 minutes to their trips.

The University Bridge rehabilitation project is expected to take place between May 3 and August 30.
