Man assaulted in Martensville parking lot dies

SASKATOON – A man found with a head injury in the Adobe Inn parking lot earlier this month died on the weekend. Initially, police were called to an altercation on April 5 in Martensville, Sask.

Officers arrived to find the 44-year-old man unconscious and bleeding from the head. The victim was taken to hospital, underwent surgery and had been admitted into the intensive care unit at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

On Monday, RCMP announced the man succumbed to his injuries on April 25.  He was a Saskatoon resident and his name has not been released.

An autopsy is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday.

As a result of a police investigation, a Martensville man was identified as a suspect. Morgan Kendall Upton, 20, was charged with aggravated assault on April 8.

Mounties will now refer the matter to the department of public prosecutions for consideration of amending the charge.

Upton is expected to appear in Saskatoon provincial court on May 19.
