EDMONTON — Edmonton’s Alternative Music Festival SONiC BOOM is on the move, due to an overwhelming demand for a more comfortable venue.

The festival, which has been held in the Northlands parking lot since it began seven years ago, will call Borden Park home this year. The grassy park, located across 112 Avenue from Northlands, will host the two-day rock music festival on September 5 and 6.

Borden Park is home to public art, walking paths, trees, and a large open green space, which organizers said will make for a more enjoyable concert experience.

“Beautiful Borden Park is going to make a great home for SONiC BOOM,” said Dave Johnston, Creative Director of Union Events.

“Our fans asked for it, and we listened. So bring your blanket, have a sit in the grass, and enjoy two days of amazing music,” added Johnston.

SONiC BOOM organizers said move will offer more public access to the festival, by opening up more parking at Northlands. The park is also a short walk from the Coliseum LRT station.

Concert organizers have revealed that Alexisonfire will be performing at this year’s festival. The full line up will be released on Wednesday, April 29.
