TORONTO — Here’s a look at Jared Leto as The Joker in the new DC Comics film Suicide Squad.
The photo of the Oscar-winning actor with dyed hair, tattoos and metal caps on his teeth was shared on Twitter late Friday by the movie’s director David Ayer.
The character celebrated his 75th anniversary on Saturday. Created by Jerry Robinson and Bob Kane, he first appeared in the Batman comic book on April 25, 1940.
Dozens of actors have portrayed The Joker on screen, including Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson and the late Heath Ledger.
At ComicBook.com, Russ Burlingame posted an in-depth analysis of Leto as The Joker. Leto tweeted: “Can’t confirm or deny but smart.”

Filming of Suicide Squad — which also stars Will Smith, Viola Davis, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Scott Eastwood, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Joel Kinnaman, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jim Parrack, Ike Barinholtz, Adam Beach, Common and Karen Fukuhara — started April 13 in Toronto and runs until the end of August.
The movie is about a group of super villains who are recruited by the U.S. government to carry out dangerous missions in exchange for reduced prison sentences.
Suicide Squad is scheduled to be released in August 2016.
