REGINA – Some residents in the Queen City have been complaining about a foul taste or odour coming from their tap water over the last week.

The City of Regina issued a release on Wednesday morning indicating residents may notice a slight odour in the water due to very high levels of algae in Buffalo Pound Lake.

“We had an early algae bloom which doesn’t normally happen until about mid-May,” said Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Manager Ryan Johnson.

“As a result of the early bloom are systems aren’t quite ready to deal with the taste and odour issues.”

The Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant is currently using powdered activated carbon to reduce taste and odour.

The City is assuring residents that the water is safe to drink.
