WATCH: Tiny puppy rescued from 6-foot-deep construction hole

A tiny puppy and its miniature owner are happy to be back together again.

As emergency crews emerged from a construction pit in Atlanta, six-week-old Toshi looked like a toy in the firefighter’s hand.

The tiny, frightened dog had fallen into a hole nearly two metres deep and was stuck inside a PVC pipe.

According to reports, Toshi was out for a walk with his owner, four-year-old Sahri, when he fell into the hole.

“We did what we could at first,” Sahri’s mother Shantessa Love told WSBTV. “We called 911. They sent animal control. They couldn’t do anything.”

Eventually, firefighters and workers from the water department arrived with an excavator to try and retrieve the Pekingese Shih Tzu mix.

During the long rescue, crews were forced to shut off the water due to fears that Toshi would drown when a pipe ruptured.

After eight hours of digging, firefighters were able to get deep enough into the hole to pull the dog out.

Sahri took the whimpering, shivering dog into her arms saying, “He’s cold.”

Animal services wrapped Toshi up in a towel and gave him some oxygen to ensure that he was breathing well.

They say he is expected to fully recover from the ordeal.
