Teen in intensive care after alleged high-speed crash in Vancouver

VANCOUVER – A 17-year-old passenger remains in intensive care after an alleged high-speed crash in Vancouver on April 12.

Vancouver Police say the car was travelling westbound on S.W. Marine Drive at 3 a.m. when the driver crashed into someone’s front yard near 57th Avenue. The duo were in the car for almost an hour before someone found them and called for help.

The driver was treated and released from hospital on April 13, but the passenger is suffering from head trauma, facial fractures, brain swelling, a fractured arm and possible eye damage.

“This kid was just a passenger in the car, but he ended up with very serious injuries,” says Cst. Brian Montague. “Drivers need to remember that they are responsible not only for themselves, but for their passengers and everyone else on the road.”

It is believed the driver was travelling “at a high rate of speed” but police would not release further details until an investigation is complete.
