UPDATE: Charges laid in fatal Richmond house fire

RCMP have now charged a man following a fatal house fire in Richmond early Monday morning.

Thirty-seven-year-old Surjit Dosanjh has been charged with second-degree murder. He is also facing a second charge, but police have declined to say what that is.

Flames broke out in a house located in the 10,000-block of Cornerbrook Crescent at around 2 a.m.

Once the fire was contained, investigators entered the home to find the remains of a 66-year-old. A thirteen-year-old boy inside the house was also sent to hospital and police say he is not expected to survive.

Dosanjh has been in custody since the fire and is due to appear in court today.

Friends of the family have set up a Gofundme page to raise money for medical, food and clothing expenses.
