Portion of Mill Woods Skate Park reopens

EDMONTON — A large portion of a popular Edmonton skate park has been reopened just days after it was deemed unsafe by the city.

Pete Miller with the city’s Community Services department says about 80 per cent of the Mill Woods Skate Park is open for skaters’ use.

Earlier this week city officials said the park was being shut down indefinitely due to several concerns, including exposed rough and jagged concrete caused by the annual freeze-thaw cycle.

On Friday, Miller met with engineers and a consultant and it was determined that part of the park was safe to use. A fence was placed around the area that’s been deemed unsafe.

Miller says the city will now assess the scope of the needed repairs to determine if it’s practical to fix the remaining part of the park.

A long-term plan may include a complete re-vamp of the park.
