Deadline day for owners of home where Allan Schoenborn killed his children

The home in Merritt. CFJC News

VANCOUVER – The owners of a mobile home in Merritt have hit a critical deadline to deal with the structure.

The City of Merritt says if it is not removed or demolished by today it will step in. It’s the home where Allan Schoenborn killed his three children seven years ago.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The landlords have been cited repeatedly for failing to maintain the vacant home. It is essentially uninhabitable and is also a painful reminder of the tragedy. The owners were told to deal with the trailer by March 15 but it is not clear why that did not happen.

Schoenborn was found not criminally responsible for the 2008 slayings of his daughter and two sons, 10-year-old Kaitlynne, eight-year-old Max, and five-year-old Cordon. Since the killings he has been in a psychiatric hospital in Port Coquitlam.

He’s now asking for supervised outings.
