Significant snowfall forecast as southern Manitoba goes white again

WINNIPEG – An intense weather system coming from the U.S. is expected to bring significant snowfall to Manitoba on Tuesday and Wednesday, Environment Canada says.

As snow blanketed Winnipeg Monday morning, the weather agency warned parts of southernwestern Manitoba and the northern Interlake could get 10 to 15 centimetres of snow by the end of Wednesday, the weather agency said. Weather warnings may be issued for those areas as the low-pressure system moves closer.

The weather system is forecast to bring rain to south-central and southeastern Manitoba late Tuesday, but that is expected to turn to snow by Wednesday morning. The snow is expected to taper off Wednesday as the system moves over the Great Lakes.

Winnipeg’s forecast includes a 30 per cent chance of rain Tuesday and a 60 per cent chance of rain or snow Wednesday.

Snow fell in southern Manitoba early Monday, creating slippery conditions and multiple crashes on highways. Roads were also slippery in Winnipeg.
