One dead after submerged vehicle recovered near Kinley, Sask.

KINLEY, Sask. – A 56-year-old man is dead after a submerged truck was found upside down east of Kinley, Sask. on Saturday. Emergency services were called to a body of water off of Highway 14 at around 7 p.m.

Investigators say a vehicle with two occupants lost control and went off the road at a bridge.

A 27-year-old woman was able to get out of the vehicle. She was taken to hospital in Saskatoon with unknown injuries.

The other occupant was unaccounted for but believed to be in the submerged vehicle. Efforts by Biggar’s firefighters in surface suits were unsuccessful due to the depth and significant current.

At 7:52 p.m., the Saskatoon Fire Department’s dive team was called to the scene where Eagle Creek meets the highway.

A diver spent 10 minutes fighting the current in the frigid water to connect a cable to the undercarriage of the vehicle.

The man’s body and the vehicle were recovered. His name has not been released.

Mounties say road conditions were icy at the time of the incident.
