Winnipeg – The city of Winnipeg is reviewing a report released on the insecticide, malathion, the chemical used to kill mosquitoes in Winnipeg.
On Friday the World Health Organization concluded that malathion is “probably carcinogenic” to human beings.

Saturday morning, a spokesperson from the city issued this statement ” The city of Winnipeg public service will be reviewing the WHO report in consultation with Health Canada, who license and regulate the use of malathion by municipalities.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer, a specialized agency within the WHO, tested five insecticides and have concluded that Malathion, ” is probably carcinogenic”.
The city uses malathion when adult mosquito numbers are high.
