Kadri suspended four games after headshot to Oilers’ forward

TORONTO – Nazem Kadri will be sitting out the next four games.

The league’s department of NHL player safety suspended Kadri Wednesday following a headshot on Edmonton Oilers’ forward Matt Fraser during a game in Edmonton on Monday night.

Kadri was skating behind his team’s net during the third period of the game when his elbow hit Fraser on the side of the head.

Fraser suffered a concussion from the hit and had to be helped off the ice. Kadri was eventually tossed from the game after a scuffle ensued later in the third period.

The headshot will cost Kadri an estimated $144,463, which goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Kadri told reporters after the game that he doesn’t consider himself “a dirty player.”

Kadri was suspended for three games after a similar hit to Niklas Backstrom in 2013. For that hit, he forfeited over $44,000 in salary.
