TORONTO – BlackBerry has partnered with IBM and Samsung to develop a security focused tablet aimed at businesses and government users. But the tablet isn’t a new BlackBerry design – it’s a high-security version of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S 10.5.

The device – dubbed SecuTABLET – will allow users to access sensitive private data, as well as use personal applications that aren’t as sensitive, such as Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp. It uses BlackBerry 10’s Secusmart Security Card technology to secure user data.

“Security is ingrained in every part of BlackBerry’s portfolio, which includes voice and data encryption solutions,” said Dr. Hans-Christoph Quelle, CEO of Secusmart GmbH in a statement.

“National and international government customers have entrusted their voice and data communications with the Secusmart Security Card for years.”

BlackBerry unveiled the device Saturday at the CeBIT tech conference in Germany.

Last week, during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, BlackBerry unveiled its new BlackBerry Leap smartphone and announced it would release three additional devices this year.

CEO John Chen also announced the Waterloo, Ont. based company will roll out “BlackBerry Experience,” a set of three software packages focusing on security and communications for business and government customers over the next year.

BlackBerry has been partnering with Samsung on various devices since early this year. In January, amid rumours that Samsung was planning to take over BlackBerry, Samsung’s co-CEO said it planned to use BlackBerry technology in Samsung devices.
