MONTREAL — About 100 people were evacuated as firefighters battled a major fire in an apartment building in St. Leonard Monday morning.
The fire started at around 3:50 a.m. in a 26-block apartment building near the corner of Bélanger Street and Lacordaire Boulevard.
Three residents were transferred to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries such as smoke inhalation and burns.
According to officials, the fire was contained for the most part in the eastern part of the building due to the effectiveness of a fire wall.
By 8 a.m., the blaze was brought under control by firefighters.
