UPDATE: Hazmat crews find no evidence of hazardous materials

VANCOUVER – Hazmat crews said they found no evidence of hazardous materials or products in a suspicious envelope delivered to a law firm in Vancouver this afternoon.

At about 11 a.m. this morning, an evelope was delivered to the mail room of the law firm Fasken Martineau, which is located in the Bentall 5 building in the 500-block of Burrard Street.

According to a statement made by the firm, their staff smelled a noxious odor emanating from the envelope. They immediately contacted Bentall security, who called police in to investigate.

Vancouver Fire Battalion Chief said people were feeling ill and had itchy throats. None of the people impacted by the envelope were taken to hospital.

Police, fire and Hazmat crews were on the scene immediately to investigate and the incident closed part of downtown Vancouver for more than an hour.

Vancouver Fire Rescue said the envelope is now with Health Canada for further testing.
