Kim Dorion has had months of planning for her wedding ruined, and is out $4,000, after an Abbotsford party planning company suddenly closed without any warning this month.
“I couldn’t function. I couldn’t cry, I couldn’t move, I just stood there in complete shock,” she said, describing her emotions after finding out Classic Party Rentals had abruptly closed.
The company still has inventory inside its building. But a sign reads “Classic Party Rentals will be closed until further notice,” is on the front door and calls by Dorion and Global News to the owners have not been returned.
Dorion paid for Classic Party Rentals to supply a tent, chairs and other items for their wedding. However, MasterCard says they can’t get their money back because their purchase wasn’t a tangible item.
While she says the money is one thing, the challenge getting so many new things for their dream wedding is another.
“We have no structure for our wedding, I don’t know what to do right now,” she said.
“We’ve looked into options, because we still want to do it here. We don’t want to change the location – it’s your dream wedding, you want to have it where you envision it.”
Clark Berry is another person looking for both money and answers. He arrived at Classic Party Rentals today surprised to see the store was closed. His dad has sent emails to the owner, but hasn’t heard back either.
“There’s going to be a lot of others who are suffering, out of money and if they don’t find out in time, right before their wedding, not going to be able to get what they need for their wedding,” he said.
