Thousands attend ‘Girls Can Fly Too’ at Abbotsford airport

The organizers of an event at the Abbotsford International Airport want young females to know the sky’s the limit when it comes to a career in aviation.

The 4th annual The Sky’s No Limit, Girls Can Fly Too event, which takes place March 7-8, wants girls and women to consider a career as a pilot, mechanic or aerospace engineer.

The Cascade Aerospace hangar will be among the many normally private areas opened for the event. They are also offering free “discovery” flights for females who have never flown in a small aircraft before.

Organizers says their goal is to encourage females to take a look at the traditionally male-dominated aerospace industry.

The message appears to be getting through. Only 1,500 people attended the first Sky’s No Limit event four years ago. Approximately 10,000 mostly female attendees will come out for this weekend’s event.
