Driver suspected of fleeing serious Vernon car crash arrested

VERNON – A Vernon man suspected of fleeing a serious car crash late last year was arrested Tuesday.

The collision between a Jeep and a Hyundai happened December 3rd at Alexis Park Drive and 39th Avenue.

The woman driving the Hyundai suffered serious spine injuries and was taken to Vancouver General Hospital for treatment. She remains in hospital.

The driver of the Jeep ran away from the crash scene.

“A team of officers were assigned to this case. They never gave up on finding the person responsible for this terrible crash that left a seriously injured woman trapped in her car,” says RCMP Inspector Jim McNamara.

The 22 year old suspect is expected to face criminal code charges of hit and run and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

The Vernon RCMP is thanking the public for providing information that assisted in making the arrest.
