Woman attacked on UBC campus

WATCH: RCMP are investigating after an 18-year-old woman was attacked at UBC. Police calling it an isolated incident – saying it’s not likely connected to a string of sex assaults that happened on campus in 2013. But as Ted Chernecki reports, it still has students on the edge.

RCMP say an 18-year-old woman was assaulted on the University of British Columbia’s Point Grey campus Sunday.

The woman was walking in Mundell Park at approximately 10 p.m. when she was grabbed from behind by a man. She managed to break free and contact police, who were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as an 18- to 20-year-old olive-skinned man with short, black spiky hair, standing between 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-6. He was wearing a puffy green army vest, a dark long-sleeved shirt and dark pants.

In a statement, RCMP Cpl. Brenda Winpenny said they “believe this to be an isolated incident,” adding that “there is no information at this time to connect this case with any other ongoing investigations.”
